![]() You can ball up some aluminum foil to fill holes. You will also want to cover the threads of any bolts you hope to use after application with tape and plug any holes with threads in them if you need to install bolts into them after coating. You can also wrap oddly shaped objects with aluminum foil, cling wrap plastic, or even an old grocery bag. We've used blue painter's tape and paper over painted surfaces and glass. You will also want to tape off any surfaces that you don't want Lizard Skin splattered on when applying it. Any iron or ferrous-based metals will need a coating of primer prior to the application of Lizard Skin CI. We like the red pads over the green or gray ones, which offer finer scuffing. We also like to scuff the shine off factory paint with a red (very fine) scuffing pad. We use acetone or another cleaning agent to get oils and greases off the surface. You will want to get rid of any dirt or oily residue for sure. Wind noise from the top is obviously unaffected by the LizardSkin.This stuff seems to stick pretty well to any painted metal surface, but as always, some surface prep is a good idea. The Battlewagon is a soft-top HMMWV, so still loud as hell… just more manageably loud.A lot of the resonating sound of road noise has been reduced.Particularly, the noise coming from the doghouse has been reduced WAY more than I expected.The rattly sound in the HMMWV is almost totally gone.For more on how it holds up long-term, check out our Long term lizardskin review article. It seems to deform a bit rather than cracking… so there are a few tiny dents under my heavy toolbox in the back where it smooshed (that is a technical term) a little… but the paint still looks fine. So far, the LizardSkin coatings are wearing well.I gave it a couple of days to cure, then sprayed 4 coats of paint over it. I sprayed the LS recommended 4 coats of each product on the entire interior body tub and used about 3.5 gallons of each. I had never painted with anything but cans of spray paint and I found the process very straight forward, easy, and simple. After it has dried follow with the Sound Control insulation on top. Beads will be in later this week, so stay tuned. 2 gallons plus 2 lbs of beads cost me 70 - bonus: I had the paint color matched in a nice semi gloss.
